Cheer 2008

I went to the national cheerleading competition in Stadium Putra Bukit Jalil last week with ambo_az. The indoor lighting was quite dim for someone with a slow lens.

It was a fun outing, especially with ambo's companionship. Now I know how difficult it is to shoot indoor sports.

Macro War Trilogy Volume 1: Aerial Dogfight

News Flash:
Due to some problems in uploading to the Fotopages server, the deadline is extended to 11.59pm of 30th July.

You can still send your macro army!!!

Rules:

1. Nature macro only. Shots must be taken on the field.
2. Only flying critters. The photo not necessarily shows it is flying.
2a (errata 20 July). Only flying arthropods without elytra (protective wings) are accepted. Meaning you cannot submit beetles, ladybirds and mantis this month. These arthropods, which spend most time crawling than flying, can be submitted for Part 2.
3. May post as many photos in respective fotopages but shots must be taken in July 2008. Do not strip off the exif data.
4. Select 3 favourite contenders by 29th July. Put a remark in your fotopages. A 50-word caption per photo may be inserted which I will copy to the polling page.
5. I will post a poll here by August 1st. Poll ends August 3rd at 11.59pm.
6. Campaign can be done in your respective fotopages and all army should direct your fans to vote at my site for Volume 1. Volume 2 will be fought at Boogey's domain (counter attack la ni).
7. You may campaign elsewhere too, ie in forums.
8. Volume 2 will be Ground Assault which will commence on 4th August. Volume 3 is marine invasion (D-Day) where final showdown begins on 4th September.

Whoever wants to join the war must open an entry with the above title and put macro photos according to the monthly theme. Then post a link to the direct entry as a comment here. Follow the steps 1-8 above.

A model shootout

I had a great opportunity to learn on model shooting. Mychiaroscuro, the psycopath kult of Malaysia Olympus users, organized a model shooting session in a park in TTDI yesterday. This was the first time I join such a session and shoot a living model who will give me eye contact.

I was akward at the beginning but the model Ms Sunnie was very professional in making me feel comfortable.

Most of the shot were taken with the Zuiko 50-200mm f2.8-3.5 SWD, lended by Superman. Ultra fast+sharp piece of solid poison!

Super GT 2008

This is the first time I went to the Sepang circuit.

Motorsport photography can be said as an area I have never dwelled. I know that the key thing to capture good motorsport images is to master the art of panning. Unfortunately, I have never done a successful panning ever!

Not that I have tried a lot. Since I mostly hunt for macro subjects or throw myself into a public rally, I didn't get much opportunity to try this sacred art. But since it's a free ticket which excludes pit pass, the only sensible thing to do was to have a self-taught crash course on panning.

On the way to the grand stand seat, these angels beakoned.

Then I watched the Asian Formula race. It's time for me to experiment on panning before the GT race starts.

Then the GT queens came out to the pit.

The GT race started and we shall see how effective the crash course has been.

Before I went back, one GT queen gave me a 'V'.

I really love this event. Will be looking forward for next year Super GT!

Bukit Kiara

In the morning today I went to a jogging park in TTDI with Boogey. He insisted that there was nothing much to shoot in early morning. So I came earlier.

Well, he missed quite a lot.

1. Boogey brought his sherpa to climb Bukit Kiara. How convenient.

2. A Linyphia urbasae with her web between the sides of a large leaf.

3. An Araneidae spider taken before Boogey arrives.

4. Courtship between Tetragnathidae spiders.

5. Law of the jungle applies to the same species as well.

6. A tree hopper.

7. Jumping spider

8. Boogey the latecomer missed this giant Nephila pilipes.

The place was infested with mosquito. Boogey provided the relief by sponsoring an aerosol insect repellant and lighting up some power sticks.
